1860 ABRAHAM LINCOLN / HANNIBAL HAMLIN CAMPAIGN FERROTYPE This sale is for a rare and highly collectible 1860 Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin Presidential Campaign Ferrotype Button / Token. Ferrotypes (often confused with daguerreotypes) arephotos on tin, popular from about 1853 - 1920. Item consists of a double sided Ferrotype—with Lincoln on the obverse and Hamlin on the reverse—surrounded by a brass frame, as seen in the pictures provided. Item has been fairly well preserved, with Ferrotype portraits of Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin showing only mild distraction in the form of some toning and discoloration (both of which are more prominent along the rim) but show no significant deterioration of the ferrotypes, as is commonly seen in these Lincoln / Hamlin ferrotype buttons. Furthermore, the ferrotype depictions show notable presentation with small detail easily discernible, with the aforementioned discoloration the only significant distraction. Item has a hole punched along the top of the surrounding brass frame as seen in the pictures provided. Surrounding brass frame has been very well preserved, with excellent presentation of raised text, with prominent and distinct lettering, also with some small detail visible in the stalks at the bottom of either side, and also features some small detail lines within the interior rim (surrounding the ferrotypes). Raised exterior rim shows fairly strong and pronounced ridges with only light wear or dulling of raised edge, along with some minor to mild abrasions, but no significant misshaping. Both sides of the brass frame show mild to moderate (and spotty / patchy appearance) toning, including some dirt evident within the recesses of detail, with a visible red coloration beneath the toning, and flashes of luster visible beneath the toning and dirt! Both surfaces show minor to mild scratch and contact markings apparent. Obverse has portrait of Lincoln on ferrotype at center, with brass frame showing the text, \"ABRAHAM LINCOLN\" above, with date, \"1860\" flanked by stalks at bottom. Reverse has a depiction of Hannibal Hamlin on center ferrotype with frame showing the surrounding text, \"HANNIBAL HAMLIN\" with date, \"1860\" at bottom center and flanked by stalks. Item has a diameter of roughly 24.5mm across, with an approximate weight of 10 grams. Please examine the pictures (scans) provided to best judge the item and its condition. Some scratches or distraction is likely a result of disturbances on the scanner glass and may not exist on the coin itself.
