It\'s my pleasure to offer at sale a Nice 1936-1938 HEDDON No.14 \"THOROBRED\" 9 FT., 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL BAG & STAMPED ALUMINUM TUBE. The No.14 \"Thorobred\" was first introduced by James Heddon\'s Sons in 1927 and would sell continuously through 1952. Because this example carries the Classic Era rodshaft markings (usedthrough 1938) and has the up-lockingpyralin seat (usedfrom 1936 to 1938), we know thiswas onlybuilt in 1936 to 1938. Heddon\'s Cleo Hanley has handwritten \"Heddon\" diagonally along three flats and \"#14\" on one flat, just above the hook keeper. The reel seat locking ring is stamped\"PAT. NO.1624052\", the 1927 patent assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking reel seat. Rod is built on a No.2-1/2 ferrule, an all-around action for both bass& trout and is considered a modern 6 or 7 wt. rod. Built with high-grade browntone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, blackened hardware, crystal agate stripping guide, tungsten steel snake guides & tip tops, hand-welted serrated ferrules, flip-ring hook keeper, wound-over winding check, plastic butt cap, screw-locking \"Hold-Tite\" pyralin reel seat, solid cork Heddon half-Wells grip and wound in red silk tipped in black. I\'ve added a photo of the original two-page listing from Heddon\'s 1936 catalog. Rod is in solid Fine+ condition, showing light to moderate wear associated with normal use. There is slight warping of the reel seat (a la pyralin) that is not very noticeable, howeverand doesn\'t affect performance in any way. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are reasonably straight. Varnish is brand new, pristine and allows this example to be put to work immediately. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, hook keeper, winding check and butt cap remain nice. Reel seat works perfectly. Solid cork grip is in excellent condition. A very handsome rod in every respect. Put up in the original Heddon cloth bag, which remains very solid and serviceable. All this goes into the original Heddon aluminum tube, which is in about Fine to Very Fine condition, showing only normal surface wear. The cap, correctly stamped \"HEDDON\", screws on tightly and securely. A very nice pre-war package from Heddon, all original and complete. To be sold with a very modest starting offer and .
