A SuperbAntique Solid Silver Ewer / Pitcher / Vase. Unattributed Hanau piece possibly. Possibly earlier than 1800\'s. Possibly Dutch. Please advise if you\'ve seen this mark before.
The ewer, 11\" in height, 6\" across. 27 ounces in weight.Highly decorated in elaborate figural beasts and grotesques. Hand made and wrought throughout with an exceptional oldpatinaandwonderful example of 17th century Gothic style.
The piece is deeply repousse. Hand worked. Note the base and underside; exceptionally detailed and hammered. Also, the applied wings formed into the wrought body. Laurel leaves all hand worked. Stunning work of the highest quality.
Several nautical deities with swords, spears and shields decorate both sides. The figural handle formed from the head of a gargoyle type creature. The front of the pitcher represented by a neo-classical stylebust, completely repousse, with long demonic horns captured in the mouth of birds, just under the spout.
The piece is in great condition. No dents or dings visible and it sits level.
