Make sure to check out all of my sales after you look at this one. I\'m listing an eclectic assortment of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will be something of interest to just about everyone.Here\'s a marvelous vintage \"banjo\" mandolin for jazz and classic music manufactured by D\'Angelo Instruments in Catania, Italy ca. 1920. Just 24\" long, the instrument is set-up like a mandolin but constructed like a banjo, with a round body and a tensioned skin top.
Condition is very good throughout, with normal signs of wear you\'d expect to see on a string instrument that\'s almost a century old. A couple of chips in the veneer, around the membrane top, but the inlays on the back are still intact, and the wood and metal parts are still in good shape overall. Tuners are working okay, but the strings are ancient and should be replaced. Neck appears to be straight, but as you can see in the pics, the back of the neck is pulling away slightly from the body. I don\'t play either the mandolin or the banjo, so please review the pics carefully and make you own assessment of this instrument\'s condition. I\'ll be happy to answer (or try to answer) any questions you might have.
Again, please look at the photographs carefully and consider them part of the description. I\'ve never seen another example of this instrument, so I have no standard with which to compare it.
That\'s about it. I will pack it carefully and properly, and Ican assure you that it willshow upat your doorstepin the samefine condition in whichits leaves mine. If you\'d like, I\'ll de-tune it before shipping -- your choice. I have been shipping antique phonographs and radios for years, and if you check my response, you\'ll see that I know how to do it correctly.
