C1890 French Bronze Diana the Huntress Signed Houdon & E. Jullien Foundry Mark For Sale

This listing is for a circa 1890s, figural bronze Diana Huntress by the French artist Jean Antoine Houdon and the Paris, France E. Jullien Foundry. The bronze including the rouge marble base measure 8 ½ inches or 21.5 cm high. The bronze features the full standing figure of a nude Diana the goddess of the woodlands and the hunt. She wears her crescent moon diadem which helps pile up her long hair. She is shown in mid-stride and carries a bow in one hand while holding an arrow in the other. The bronze has a rich red-brown patina or color which is all original to the piece. She is mounted on an eight sided stepped rouge marble base. It is signed on the base \"HOUDON\" this for Jean Antoine Houdon 1741 to 1828. Houdon was a favorite during the reign of Louis XVI and also under Napoleon. He is famous for his bronzes of mythological as well as historical subjects. There is also a foundry mark “E. JULLIEN PARIS 12 RUE PASQUIER”, who was active from 1880-1900.
The bronze is in very good condition, there are a couple flea bites on the edges of the marble, and some minor and expected variation in patina as you would expect from a 200 year old bronze. This again, is a very pretty bronze. There is .
