Colorado Southern Narrow Gage 5 Chime Whistle Live Stem Locomotive:
$1680.99

This is a 5 Chime Whistle off a Colorado Southern Narrow Gage steam locomotive that ran from Denver south west and up through the San Louis valley through Buena Vista to Leadville and many other points south and west in Colorado. It weighs 48 lb. + with the collar. Measures 19\" from bottom of valve to top of threaded rod. With the collar on adds another 2\". The width is 6 3/4\". Each fin stick out another 3/4\" beyond that. I special made the collar to adapt the whistle to 2\" pipe thread. The 5 chambers measure: shortest one 5 3/4\" inside, next one is 6 7/8\" inside, next is 7 3/4\" inside, next one is 9 1/4\" inside, and the longest one is 11 1/4\" inside. There is letters and numbers on the side (LB 2529) as can be seen in a picture. Another set of letter and numbers on top of longest chamber (96B20) as can be seen in a picture. There is a broken fin between the short chamber and the next one longer that was repaired by braising another piece on while it was still in use on the Colorado Southern (as can be seen in one of the pictures).I had this whistle mounted on the boiler as long as I was using steam to operate my sawmill in Buena Vista. It has a beautiful deep mellow sound that echoed up and down the San Louis valley each morning and evening when I blew it. (That brought a lot of old timers out to see it as they thought there was a steam locomotive back in town)

I acquired this whistle in the late 70\'s from an old friend and Colorado historian that lived in Bolder. He wrote several books on the subject.

I know nothing about whistles. I used it on my boiler as long as I used steam for power on my sawmill. All I know is that the old friend and Colorado historian that lived in Boulder whom I acquired it from in the late 70\'s told me that it came off a Colorado Southern locomotive. It may be a Northern Pacific whistle that wound up on a Colorado Southern locomotive. Thanks Gary
