Confederate Tintype E.G McGehee Virginia Nice Color 9th Plate Thermoplastic Case:
$356.00

This is a 9th plate tintype from a Richmond Virginia estate, about 2 by 2 1/2 inches, that is identified in the case as E. G. McGehee. Family records and online sources indicate that the image is of Edward Glenn McGehee, 1845-1933. The 1860 census places him at Drakes Branch, in Charlotte County Virginia, and in the 1870 census he was located in Farmville, in Prince Edward County. He is buried at Briery Church in Prince Edward County and his gravestone reads \"Capt Edward G. McGehee CSA\". The highest rank that I found for him on Ancestry was 2nd Lt. so it could be a rank from a veteran\'s organization. ‎

I shot the first photo inside at night, so the color came out too light and yellow, but I left it because it showed his eyes better than any of the others. I shot the other photos outside on a cloudy day, so they accurately show the actual appearance of the image. As you can see, there is a noticeable crackle to the emulsion and two spots where it has separated from the surface, one of them has missing emulsion on his shoulder, the other one a smaller bit missing by his hat brim. The whole surface has a strong texture to it- I don\'t know if it is intentional or age damage of some sort. It is so uniform that it seems intentional.

The owner was supposed to supply me with more information but that hasn\'t materialized. I will be happy to pass along whatever he eventually comes up with to the buyer if they want.‎

.The case has a chip at the clasp as shown in the last photo. It still closes with a click and stays closed. As you can see from the photos I have taken the image out of it\'s case to accurately show it, but when I received it there was every appearance that it had never been disturbed. The brass frame had only been bent down once and there was a fine dust inside from the velvet and paper label.

I will be happy to answer any observant er has messaged me that the this and the Ambrotype that I currently have listed appear the be the same man, after looking at them more closely I agree. It would be nice to keep them together, so if the same person wins both sales I will be doing a 10 percent rebate on both sales.
