Fisher 800-C tubereceiver, RESTORED.

Here is a very nice example of this venerablereceiver. It appears to not have had alot of use during its life and what use it did get was in a clean, smoke freeenvironment. The chassis is corrosion freeand only required a light dusting to clean it up leaving the plating in itsnatural bright state and not polished.

The wood cabinet is an original Fisher productbut not original to this receiver.Although it has been nicely refinished with Formby’s and quitepresentable, it is, in my judgment, only fair. The ventilation screen is nice and straight.

The faceplate lettering is complete with theexception of some wear at the 12 o’clock position of the volume control. The faceplate itself is bright and scratchfree. The brass control knob caps areoriginal.

All functions, switches, lamps, controlsand connectors are clean and work as they should. Although this receiver has not been aligned,the FM reception is very sensitive, clean sounding and locks onto stationssolidly. The multiplex resolves stereothe way that it should. AM reception isabout average for this model.

I have been auditioning this receiverconnected to a Marantz CD5400 CD player driving a pair of restored Fisher XP-9Cspeakers and, subjectively, the sound is just wonderful; very easy to listen toat higher volume levels with good tight bass and crisp highs.

Thisreceiver has been completely restored to near factory specifications. ALL electrolyticcapacitors were replaced. Filtercapacitors have been replaced with high quality Sprague Atoms where space underthe chassis permitted. Original filtercapacitor cans were disconnected but left in place. Some larger under chassis capacitors havebeen immobilized with a dab of silicone adhesive. Rectifier diodes were replaced. The Siemens selenium rectifier has beenreplaced with a modern bridge rectifier.1 ohm precision resistors were added in series with each of the 7591a’scathodes for bias measurement. Controls and switches were cleaned andlubricated with DeoxIT products. Rubberand foam parts were replaced.

All tubes are either original Fisher brandedand tested good or NOS. The critical12AX7’s are either Fisher made in West Germany or Mullard Great Britain. The 7591’s are a matched quad of NOS Sylvanias.

All changes made can be reversed as nomodifications to the chassis were made.

Keep in mind that this receiver is nearly 50years old and some component could fail at any time without warning.

Included will be reproduction copies ofthe Fisher operator’s and service manuals as well as color prints of some ofthe original wiring.
