GEORGIAN LARGE Solid Silver SUGAR CASTER 1823 Hallmarked Birmingham Sterling NR
STUNNING CYLINDRICAL DESIGN - 4 troy oz. - SUPERB PIECE
This is a stunning ANTIQUE GEORGIAN solid sterling silver sugar caster or muffineer or sifterwhich was made in Birmingham, England in 1823 by the illustrious Victorian silversmiths, Spooner Clowes & Company. It is in a stunning cylindrical shapewith gorgeous decorated rims and is raised on a stepped reeded base and has a shaped finial to the lovely pierced and domed lid. It stands4 7/8\" tall and is about 2 1/8\" in diameter. It is very substantial - it is NOT loaded and the caster weighs110.6 grams -well over 3 1/2troy oz.
It is in very good condition with a little less than the usual surface scratching and NO splits,just a few dings and dents andalmost NO distortion or compression to the base- the top is still a very good fit - SUPER. It is hallmarked withSC&Co, anchor,lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),z, George III duty mark showing that it was hallmarked inBirmingham in 1823. I have shown the hallmarks so that you can make up your own mind. The top is hallmarked identically. A lovely LARGE GEORGIANcaster in super condition afterover 190 years at a very low start and !!!!
