JAPANESE MEIJI CLOISONNE ENAMEL DRAGON BOX W SILVER WIRE SIGNED SEIZABURO GOTO:
$1036.00

Description...I am proud to offer for sale this finely executed 19c Japanese cloisonne covered box with a impressive and colorful dragon design signed by Seizaburo Goto who was one of the Meiji periods most notable makers. This great box was produced in Japan sometime in the later part of the 19c and was most likely made for a well to do client. The construction of the box is of amazing quality in which this maker has produced some of the most gorgeous cloisonne vases and other objects made during the Meiji period with many now in museums around the world. The box has a bronzed metal body with the top depicting a impressive aqua or a blueish/green and white bodied dragon with every single scale and whisker outlined in fine silver wire with the sides of both top and bottom sections showing groupings of flowers with magic fungus decoration and the underside being done in a sky blue with a central laggy flower and a geometric wave type boarder framing the outside which is also repeated on the top as well as a old red and white sale sticker. The inside is finished in a silk brocade fabric which may indicate that this box was to store something delicate such as jewelry or other expensive items or even a inro. This is a great opportunity for the collector or dealer to purchase a important and amazing Japanese cloisonne box.
Condition...Excellent with very little surface wear with a couple of extremely small flea bites to the black ground and may have been done during the production process and other than the expected wear from usage the silk brocade interior has a bit of fading with some looseness to the center of the top portion but no holes or tatty wear.
Sizes....Length 4-3/4\" x Depth 3-1/2\" x Height 1-3/4\"

******I had forgotten to mention that the makers mark is located in two places with both areas on the inside of the bottom section\'s metal lipping just above where the brocade fabric stops and is done directly across from each other in those areas. Thanks For Looking!
