This is a set of three dishes made by Jacques Innocenti. Jacques Innocenti (1926-1958) studied ceramics at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He moved to Vallauris in 1949 and began working at La Poterie du Grande Chêne, which was owned by his parents. He opened his own atelier in 1952, and took over La Poterie du Grande Chêne upon his parents’ death in 1955. His work was highly regarded and in 1955 he won the silver medal at the Cannes International Ceramics Exhibition. He took inspiration from another Vallauris potter, Pablo Picasso, and worked primarily with slip and incised sgraffito techniques. He died suddenly at a young age, and his work has became highly desirable and valuable.

This lot consists of two round dishes with a turned lip and a high sided square dish. All three are glazed in a matte brown on red clay with a white slip applied to the interior that is sgraffito incised with a whimsical representation of chickens. The round shallow dishes measure 5 5/8” in diameter while the small dish measures 3” square with a height of 1 3/4”. Together, they weigh 1 1/2 lbs. Each is signed on its underside with “J.I.”. All three are in very good condition with the exception of flakes and wear to the brown glaze on the top edges, particularly along the turned lip on the shallow dishes, not surprising as this type of glaze is very thin - the nice thing is that I think that this should be easy to restore/repair. There is also a bit of crazing to the white slip decoration on the square dish, but this is quite minor. Jacques Innocenti pieces are very collectible and command high prices at French sale houses, so please offer accordingly.....Please click on any photo in order to enlarge for a supersized look at the detail…...sold “as is” by sale with a very low starting price and .....and please be sure to view my other sales for more interesting vintage and antique items, all collected from a number of good quality local estates, including another shallow dish by Jacques Innocenti portraying a fish….Canadian buyers, please note that I offer shipping to my customers in the US through Champlain, New York, but because I am a registered business located in Canada, I must charge any applicable GST/HST/PST to a Canadian buyer - read further below to understand my shipping methodology as I do not want any misunderstanding post-sale regarding shipping costs......IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ: ABOUT RETURNS: We have had to opt out of ’s 90 day return policy, but that does not mean that we do not accept returns.
