NICE OLD WORKING RARE GERMAN BLACK FOREST DEEPLY CARVED WOOD HUNTER CUCKOO CLOCK For Sale

This is an outstanding find of a beautiful, deeply carved, working, deeply carved wood cuckooclock that was created in the Black Forest of \"Triberg Germany\" about 65 years ago by \"Hubert Herr,\" one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. According to Reinhard Herr (Hubert\'s Grandson), this clock was carved from cured and aged Lindenwood that has been the choice of Black Forest carvers since 1870. The clock is just breathtaking and has a gorgeous, deep walnut finish with contrasting lighter walnut and mahogany; very nice! The case is adorned with eight carvedoak leaves and another is found on the pendulum. The carvings are exceptional,deep, intricate, and wavy. There is a carved wood game bird mounted to the right of the dial and an equally impressive carved wooden rabbit to the left. There is a carved wooden game bag near the bottom and two carved wooden shotguns are present there as well. There is a magnificent, large carved wooden deer head completewith antlers sits atop the clock and two more wooden shotguns are mounted underneath. I don\'t think the antlers are made of wood but they surelook real. The wooden dial has a blackbackdrop and features raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancymatching hands to point out the time. There is a hinged wooden access door mounted to the right of the case and secured with a metal hasp. The door opens to allow access to the front of the movement in the event that any adjustments ever are needed. Theclock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. It easily removes toallow access to the mechanical, weight driven movement inside the case bearing the Hubert Herr name. A weight drivenmovement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to windthe clock and cuckoo activity. Hubert Herr left nothing to chance and made (still makes) their own movements. The wooden bellow tubes are in goodshape and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour,a colorful bird opens the small door above the dial and stands in thedoorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nicesounding chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour andcorrectly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreating to thesafe confines of the inner clock; fascinating! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoosas it should. It is an old clock and we don\'t know the service history though I did find a service date on the inner rear door: 1-11-13. Nonetheless, it is an old clock and some adjustments or service may benecessary once the clock makes the journey to its new home. We always recommend toour clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least onceevery three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one andkeep it running strong. The clock comes complete as shown with two setsof attached metal chains, a wooden oak leaf pendulum, and two heavypinecone shaped metal weights. I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well andcan\'t find anydamage, repairs or missing parts; absolutely gorgeous on display! It is an impressiveold clock and the ideal size too measuring about 16\" high(not counting the weights or pendulum) from the tip of the antlers to the game bag in front, about 8 1/2\" at its deepest point, and about 9 1/2\" or so across the top.This clock is just stunning and a great nostalgic look back at the greatness ofBlack Forest workmanship.
