This is an outstanding find of a gorgeous, lightly used, working,hand carved, musical, animated cuckoo clock that was createdinthe Black Forest of Schonach \"Germany\" about 25 years ago by \"Anton Schneider,\" one of the finest clockmakers in this region of the world. The clock is absolutely gorgeous, carved from cured and aged Linden wood, finished inablend of mahogany tones, and has handpainted flowers and flora on the trim; very nice! The case is adornedwithfive large, carved, grape leaves on the front; another isfound on the wooden pendulum. The case trim is deeply carved, exceptional, intricate, and wavy. There is a carved wooden bird on either side of the lower case and a carved wooden nest with a wood chick between them. An equally impressive, large carved wooden bird sits atop the clock looking as though he\'sready to take flight.The wood dial has a woodtone backdrop andfeatures white Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching wooden hands to point out the time.There is a fancy wooden platform above thedial and four colorful wooden dancers are positioned there. Theclock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. It easily removes toallow access to the weight driven, mechanical \"Regula\"movement inside the case bearing the Schneider name. A weight driven movement simply means that thechains need to be pulledoccasionallyto wind the clock, music,andcuckoo activity. Regula makes the best movements which is why Anton uses them in all of his high quality clocks. The bellow tubes are in goodshape and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of eachhour, a colorful wooden bird opens the small door above the dial and stands inthe doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nicesounding chime inside the case and at the same time, the birds on either side of the nest bob up and down as if tending the chick in the nest. When the bird is through with his cuckoo rounds, he retreats back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him. When he is safely back inside, the dance floor begins to turn and the dancers twirl about as a high quality, \"Swiss\" music box inside the case plays a heavenly rendition of \"The Happy Wanderer.\" When the music stops the dancers wait until the next half hour to continue their dance. The bird reappears at the top of the hour andcorrectly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours and all the while the parent birds bob up and down. The bird then goes back insidethe clock and closes the door. When he\'s safely inside, the dance platform beginsto turn once again and the dancers twirl about but this time, the music box inside the case plays an equally heavenly rendition of \"Edelweiss,\" one of my wife\'s favorite tunes from the Sound of Music; fascinating! There is an intact label on the bottom of the clock identifying the song titles, Swiss origin, and Romance manufacture. And yet another great feature: there is a metal lever on the side of the case that allows you to enable or disable the music and cuckoo activities as you choose. And there is an intact label on the left side identifying Schneider as a member of the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock Association. The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, cuckoos and animates as it should, and the music is quite nice too! It is an old clock and we don\'t know the service history though I did find a service date of 11-12-12 on the inside of the back door. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service maybe necessary once the clock arrives at its new home but I doubt it...it\'s been working just fine in my office for the past two days and I\'ve enjoyed every minute of it. We do however, advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least onceevery three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one andkeep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with three setsof attached metal chains, a wooden grapeleaf pendulum, andthreeratherheavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I\'ve looked the clockover fairly well and can\'t find any damageor missing pieces; very little signs of use too save a tiny nick here and there and certainly nothing detracting. I doubt if anything could. It is a most impressiveclock and equally soinsizemeasuring about 13 1/2\" high (not counting the weights orpendulum), about 6 1/2\" at its deepest point, and about 9\" or so across the top. This clock is one ofthe finest ever made in Germany. It has a lot of great, high quality features and is juststunning!There\'s no doubt that it willturn a few heads whendisplayed in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcasea remarkable, hand carved, musical, animated, Black Forest timepiece with a genuine legacy behind it. offerwith absolute confidence; youhave found a gem!
