ORIGINAL 1860 ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN SHEET MUSIC ILLUSTRATED:
$266.00

Exceptionally rare and original, 1860 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Campaign Sheet Music featuring a fantastic portrait of the beardless Candidate at the center of an array of images related to his legendary exploits as a \"rail splitting\" and \"canal boatman\". This rare Sheet Music is titled “Lincoln Quick Step\" / \"Dedicated to the Hon. Abraham Lincoln”. It was written by Charles Grobe and is copyright 1860 by the publisher Lee & Walker of Philadelphia.

This fantastic piece of original, 1860 Presidential Campaign Sheet Music measures approx. 9 7/8” by 12 7/8” and is the entire, 6 pages Sheet Music including the illustrated cover. The Cover features a central portrait of a beardless Abraham Lincoln taken from a photograph taken by Chicago photographer Samuel M. Fassett on October 8, 1859. Above the portrait is an image of Lincoln the Railsplitter using the tools of the trade to split rails. Below the portrait there is an image of a canal boat with Abe ostensibly one of the men on the boat. To the left of the portrait we see the tools of the trade of the railsplitter (mallet, maul, wedge, etc) and on the right the tools of the trade of a canal boatman (anchor, rudder, oar, grappling pole, etc.). We believe that this is the first edition of this sheet music as later edition had different cover illustrations (including Lincoln with a beard) and made mention of \"President Abraham Lincoln\".

The single stanza of the song is typical campaign rhetoric of the 1860 Presidential Campaign and reads \"Honest Abe has split many a rail, He is up to his work and he\'ll surely not fail, He has guided his Flat-Boat thro\' many a a straight, And watchful he\'ll prove at the helm of the State.\".

This rare and quite wonderful, 1860 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Campaign Sheet Music is in very good condition - complete and intact with all 6 pages. While some have suggested that this Sheet Music had a blank rear cover, every example that we were able to examine in library or museum collections, has 6 pages with the final page being printed music as found here. The Cover is generally clean and very attractive with a single small spot of staining slightly above and to the left of the central portrait (see the scans below). The Sheet Music does show signs of having once been bound in a collection of Music Sheets with roughness along the spine end and trimming at the top, bottom and right hand edges (again see the scans below).

A very rare and highly sought after, 1860 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Campaign Sheet Music featuring a fantastic portrait of the beardless Candidate on the cover and a fantastic addition to any 19th century political collection!!!
