…… It took as quite a bit of research and help from a local flag expert to properly identify what we are selling in this sale. Measuring 6 feet by 7.5 feet, this 19th century 14-Star American Flag is a very rare example of a Pre-Civil War, Southern Confederate State, Secession Flag. The 14 stars, which are displayed in a medallion pattern with 4 flanking stars, represent the 14 states that wanted to secede from the Union. The small blue canton of this flag is made from “Confederate Corn Blue” cotton and treadle-sewn with some hand sewing. The stars are applied to both sides of the canton, and there are three ties which are attached to the hoist.

……As you can see in our photographs, this large Civil War Confederate Secession Flag is in very good, complete and un-restored condition. There are a few small holes to the thin fine cotton, as well as tears to a couple of edges and corners. Overall this rare 1860s sucessionist flag is in original and strong condition.

……This flag came to us from a consignor in Iowa who has provided us with a type-written and hand signed letter of provenance, which will be passed onto the high buyer. This flag has been in his family for over 100 years and has never been on the market before today! ... US Buyers: Shipping costs for most items can be determined by the shipping calculator in the sale (Please view details below about calculator) and are shipped via UPS ground.  If you prefer USPS this is also an option.  If you prefer USPS, please contact us and we will make arrangements.   Any item that sells for over $250 must be sent with signature required.

International buyers:  Please be aware that you may incur a brokerage and/or customs fee upon delivery. Winning buyer is responsible for shipping & customs charges. We reserve the right to choose the carrier based on shipping method selected at time of payment. Any item that sells for over $250 will be sent Express Mail with FULL insurance.
