You are offerding on a RARE Vintage LEFT HAND PENN No. 49 \"Deep Sea Reel\" Conventional Saltwater Fishing Reel. I am not sure of its origin myself, but some notes as to the reel you are offerding on: It has the reversed orientation handle crank, the arm by the knob arcs up and the counter balence arcs down (the chiral to normal handles) as far as I know this is commonly how PENN arranged its left handed model cranks. Also, the chrome parts are all non-numberd indicating an early model PENN reel. The star has normal clockwise tightening as the same on right handed models. And of course the reel cranks left handed. As far as I know the early left handed models were on special order or made personally in factory by personnel and not commonly produced. I am not sure of the origins of this particular reel but from the info maybe you can deduce an opinion and I would be happy to hear from you info can be kept private if you make mention and i will not post your comments if you request.

As to the cosmetic condition of the reel the chrome parts - crank, star, lever, posts and hardware have normal finish wear wear to them, with some brass spots, scratches, etc, but the are still in solid good and competent shape. Spool looks good with some lite wear and the plates are in good shape with some surface wear. Has finish wear but still a good looking vintage reel. The super-sized and zoom-able photos show the reel for your close inspection.

This LEFT HAND No. 49 is in good working shape but please take note -- that the clutch slips a little when going in gear, if you tilt the reel slightly to the crank side it engages more effectively - it does stay in gear and cranks well once engaged. Otherwise it cranks well nice feeling gears on crank with good working solid anti-reverse mode. Drag works well smooth, variable and strong. Freespool works well and has a nice working bait clicker and clicker switch. All the levers works and reel work well in both anti-reverse mode as mentioned and forward revers modes. In all a rare PENN collectable piece ready for collection or the field if so desired.
