This sale is for an all original and highly desirable postwar Lionel D-40 Semaphore Dealer Display Layout in overall Excellent (C7) condition. Created and produced by the Lionel Display Department in 1951, less than 150 of these display layouts were ever made. The wood- frame shelf unit comes with its original wood-frame red Upson-Board stanchion, original Lionel Semaphore Blade sign, and original white shelves with original yellow pillar. The removable shelf unit fastens to the base with the use of threaded anchors and wing-nuts; anchors and nuts are rust free. The shelf unit is in Very Good (+) (C6-C7) condition; the sign and stanchion show signs of handling wear but nothing broken or repaired.
The original 4\' x 6\' landscaped plywood base comes with its original 027 track, 1122 switches, and 6019 operating track. Not many of these bases have survived. More often than not, the base was discarded and shelf unit was retained by the dealer to display trains. The display base came pre-wired from the Lionel Display Department for the following accessories which were to be taken from the dealer\'s stock; 145 Gateman, 1033 transformer, 252 Crossing Gate, 154 Highway Signal and 256 Illuminated Freight Station. The layout comes with everything you see pictured (except the trains) including its original accessories from the dealer and photocopies of the instruction sheet and wiring diagrams. The base is in Excellent (+) (C7-C8) condition with all of its original grass and painted surfaces still intact; no retouching. Feel free to e-mail me with questions.
