Rare 19th C. 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug w/ Large Cobalt Flower Basket Decoration, NR For Sale

<div style=\"text-decoration:none\" height=\"23px\" valign=\"middle\" face=\"arial\" A rare 3 gallon Stoneware Jug with a large cobalt & manganese floral basket decoration. It is stamped W. A. Lewis, Gaylesville, New York, circa 1858. This early jug is decorated with an artistic slip-trail design of a basket overflowing with large flower blossoms, vines and grape clusters. The design is executed perfectly & is very detailed, it takes up the entire top half of the jug & extends to both sides. Itis decorated with an unusual dark purplish blue slip which appears to be a combination of cobalt and manganese. There is a very tight hairline on the spout that appears to have been done in-the-making. The jug is very solid & rings true when tapped, otherwise it is in excellent condition with just minor imperfections from the kiln. There are no other chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs.The decoration on this jug is very well done & quite unusual, the cobalt & manganese decoration is very bright with no fry to the design. It measures 15 1/4\" tall & the bottom is 9 1/2\" in diameter. An exceptionally rare piece of early American stoneware, offered with !!
