A small but interesting archive of items belonging to George Lighthiser of the 38th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. The archive includes his original discharge at Louisville, Kentucky, dated July 12, 1865, two Treasury Department documents from 1886 detailing his failed attempt to collect travel expenses from when he first joined the army in 1861, a letter to his father with envelope, and a cabinet photograph taken in later years in his fraternal order uniform. Of particular interest are twelve surviving manuscript pages from his highly detailed and well written diary that need further research. The remainder of the diary has long since disappeared.
