PLEASE READCOMPLETE DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY AND VIEW ALL PHOTOS CLOSELY BEFORE offerDING:

Up for sale is a very large 14" long tin battery operated open wheel race car with auto-jacks and removable wheels / tires. Made by SSSSHIOJI of Japan in the early \'60s, this Indianapolis 500 racer is very clearly patterned after the Watson roadsters that once dominated the infamous Indy " brickyard " race track. The stunning example shown here was a special issue made for Sears & Roebuck store, hence no markings or race numbers. It is very clean and ingood played with condition. All parts are intact including a spare tire/wheel and the rarely found cable steering mechanism. The two tone cream over red finish has a smooth luster but does show minor play wear with some scuffs and scrapes. The trim all shines brilliantly with no tarnish or corrosion. Heavy plastic windshield has no cracks or breaks and isstill held firmly in place. The car isauthentically detailed and very realistic withside mounted external oil tank, chrome roll bar, Halibrand style mag wheels with actual knock off spinners, and highly polished four into one exhaust, obviouslydenotingpower from theincredible Offenhauser overhead cam engine. Nicely detailed interior shows a full compliment of gauges in the separate tabbed dash, and a large metal steering wheel that actually steers the front wheels. Realistic treaded rubber tires are all flawless, void of any cracks, splits or flat spots. The glossy gray base has onlyminor wear. Battery box is antiseptic clean with no rust or corrosion. A switch at back of chassis brings the battery operated motor to life. The switch is temperamental and needs to be in just the right spot to run. The motor runs smoothly forward or revers and will intermittently stop while jacks extend from bottom of car lifting it off the ground to change tires. Jacks will then retract and motor runs again. When held, the drive axle moves quickly forward or reverse but when place on the ground the car does not move. I\'m not sure if my batteries weren\'t up to the task of running such a large heavy car or if a gear is not aligned right. The large knock off hubs (which are all pristine) can then be screwed off in order to remove wheels in a pretend pit stop. Two spare tires and wheels are included for the pretend pit stop.Separate steering wheel with cable can be attached to steering wheel in car so the wanna be racer can run behind car as it rolls along steering it in whatever direction he or she wants. Spring cable has a kink but it does not affect operation of steering. Colorful factory box has wonderful graphics but it has seen better days showing major wear. The box has done it\'s job though in keeping this large and impressive front engine open wheel racer in great shape for over 50 years. A magnificent survivor race car toy that would be a welcome addition to any collection. You can\'t go wrong withmy low,low staring offer and.......as always.

Last photo is a depiction of similar car for reference from the Big Book Of Tin Toy Cars Commercial And Racing Vehicles by Ron Smith and Bill Gallagher.
