This is an absolutely breathtaking, deeply carved, high quality, working, 8 day cuckoo clock that was produced in the Black Forest about 30 years ago in what was then, Triberg \"West Germany\" by \"Dold,\" one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. The clock was hand carved by master carver, Oli Zinapold when he was working at the Dold \"Exquisit\" factory in Triberg Germany, long before he opened his own world famous shop, Oli\'s Schnitzstube, in this small village which remains to this day. It is by far one of the most attractive clocks I\'ve ever seen and frankly, were it not for the cause listed below, this clock would remain in our home. The clock is made entirely ofcured and aged Linden wood which is the choice of fine carvers in the Black Forest since the 1870\'s. It is a large clock with a rare 3 bird case design complete with a hand carved nest and two wooden carved chicks; very nice! There are hand carved, large wooden birds perched on either side of the dial looking upward at an equally impressive larger hand carved bird atop the clock looking as though he\'s ready to take flight. The clock isadorned with seven large wood grape leaves and another carved leaf is found onthe wooden pendulum. The dialhas a darker woodtone backdrop and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching fancy handsto point out the time. There is awooden back on the case that is secured with a metal latch. The backremoves easily to allow access to the weight driven, mechanical movement produced by \"Regula.\" Aweight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulledevery 8 days or whenever you wish to wind the clock and cuckoo activities. Regula makes the best movements and Dold always used this movement in their higher end clocks. The bellow tubes are intact and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour, the small wooden door above the dialopens and a colorful wooden bird stands in the doorway. He gives off a singledeep cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled chime inside the casebefore retreating back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. Thecuckoo bird comes out again at the top of each hour and correctlycuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before going back inside theclock; fascinating! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoos likeit should though it is an old clock and we don\'t know the service history. I did find a service date written on the inside of the back door: 6-25-12. Nonetheless, someadjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its newhome...but I doubt it. It\'s been working all week in my office and hasn\'t missed a beat. Keep in mind that we always advise our clock customers to service their antiqueor vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will turn aclassic like this one into a family heirloom in years to come. I\'velooked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find any missing parts, repairs, damage and only very little signs of use. It is in excellent condition, a very impressiveclock, and equally so in size measuring about 16 1/2\" high (not counting theweights or pendulum), about 6 1/2\" at its deepest point, and about 12\" across the top. The clock comescomplete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a wooden carved grape leafpendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. This clockis unique, very special, and certain to please anyone seeing it in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a genuine, Black Forest, 8 day timepiece with a wonderful legacy behind it. offer with confidence; I have no doubt that you will absolutely love this clock!
