This sixth plate tintype features a uniformed triple-armed Civil War cavalryman proudly displaying his Sharps carbine, along with his sword and pistol. The Sharps looks to be a model 1859, which was the style used by many Union cavalry soldiers. As you can see, the image is in good shape overall with very nice clarity. There is a slight bend and a few marks to the left of the soldier\'s head-the area looks like a dark splotch in our picture- all trivial and not affecting the main part of the image, but mentioned here for accuracy. This nice original image comes housed in a full sixth plate size gutta-percha case with brass frame/mat... and a seldom seen curved cover glass designed to protect the image. The case has brass hinges and a fancy geometric design. The hinges and latch are tight and the case is excellent.
