ANTIQUE c1777 FRENCH MARSEILLES SAVY FAIENCE TUREEN PAINTED SCENES*VEUVE PERRIN For Sale

This is a wonderful antique 18th century French Marseilles faience covered tureen. It bears the iron-red \"fleur de lis\" mark for Honore Savy (c1749-1790), who was also associated with the Veuve Perrin and Leroy factories.There are all over hand painted vignettes depicting life near the sea, with courting couples, figures fishing, and boats at sea. The shape of the tureen is lovely, with beautiful painted colors. There are two applied handles and a unique four scroll finial. One handle has an old restoration, and the finial has a chip off the top. I also found a very short hairline on the footing that has a small flake out of the glaze on the outside. The tureen \"rings\" when you tap it with your finger so there do not appear to be any cracks or restorations to the main body or the lid. The tureen measures about 7\" tall to the top of the finial, and about 7 1/4\" across with the handles. The footing is 2 3/4\" in diameter. I have had this looked over by an expert in European ceramics, and this is guaranteed to be an authentic piece of early French Faience, dating from the last quarter of the 18th century.
