Antique 1800s General Store Ledger John Shirley Mattituck NY 1819-1822 For Sale

Antique 1800's General Store Ledger John Shirley Mattituck New York 1819-1822. This 1819-1822 General Store Ledger has many great handwritten entries, as it offers a glimpse into the daily operations of a general store in the mid-19th century. The ledger contains numerous entries detailing the sale of various goods, as well as accounts of debts owed and payments made. This leather bound ledger is in good condition for being over 200 years old but it is absolutely not perfect and it has issues. The ledger is 15 1/2” x 6 1/2" x 1 1/4". There are approximately 300-325 pages (counted like a book, not individual pages) and all are written on from top to bottom. The spine appears to be loose but still intact. All pages look to be intact as well with none falling out from what I can find. The first 2 pages are dated 1820 and then 1821 but appears to be in chronological order after that, spanning from 1819-1822. Some pages are more brittle than others but in good condition for its age and you can flip through the pages relatively easily. It does have an old smell to it as well

This listing is for only ONE ledger that is pictured. It did come in a lot of 2 and the other is labeled as “Store Account Book of John Shirley. Building situated a little north of Mattituck House” which is how I know where this ledger came from. This ledger in the listing does not have the John Shirley name or Mattituck location name in the front cover. It may be in another area of the book but I cannot guarantee as I did not look through every page
