Antique 19th C 1855 Dated Pewter Snuff Box Signed DOBSON Family New York Nice For Sale

For sale is an Antique 19th C 1855 Dated Pewter Snuff Box. The lid features beautiful Victorian era scroll with engraved name of “W M Dobson”, which could be the first owners’ name. The front of the box is carved with “J. Dobson New York” probably the son (or close relative) of W M Dobson. A true American family heirloom item. Inside of the lid contains a hand-scratched year of 1855. Not sure whether that was done by its first or later owner, so this item is dated at latest to 1850s, but possible much earlier.

The box measures approximately 3” by 2”. The condition is excellent. The hinges are working properly with no broken parts. The lid still has the kind of tight snap when you open or close it. The lid top engraving is mostly well preserved with great patina and no major issues. Age appropriate surface wears and imperfections are to be expected.
