VeryRare Fancy IDENTIFIED CIVIL WAR Period Officer's Shaving Mirror, 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry
DESCRIPTION:Scansshow it all.....very nice, rare Civil War IDENTIFIED 3 DIMENSIONAL, 3 SECTION "BEARD" shaving mirror. Has a great look, and very functional with 3 hinged sections, especially useful for someone with a beard. Has nice small chain as well as hook to hang.
Best part is that it is a PENNSYLVANIA CAVALRY item, and USED BY THE COLONEL OF THE 4th PENN. CAVALRY REGIMENT, LATER LEADER OF THE BRIGADE. THE 4th PENN CAVALRY REGIMENT SAW SIGNIFICANT ACTION IN MANY BATTLES AS PART OF THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC, INCLUDING THE BATTLES OF ANTIETAM AND GETTYSBURG. He was promoted to COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL COLONEL WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT ANTIETAM.
Each of the 3 mirrored sections has a paper/leather reverse with design, similar to what is used on a period ambrotype case. His name is faintly seen on 1 of them in ink, "Colonel J. K. Kerr, 4th Pa. Cavalry".
This came with his 2 volume Cavalry tactics book, each also identified in the front. This sale is ONLY for his shaving mirror, however. Nice copy of his records with picture as shown, that DO come with it.
Each section measures 3 1/2" x 4 1/2". Very good condition overall and A GREAT ITEM FOR A CAMP, CAVALRY, OR OFFICER'S COLLECTION OR DIORAMA.
