( Although the title says "Maj. Gen. Grant," it is actually a photo of him from the fall of 1861 early in the War when he was a Brigadier General. Notice the length of his beard. The card was actually aquatintengraved several months later when he attained Major General in 1862)
CONDITION IS VERY FINE WITH A PERIOD THUMBTACK HOLE ON THE TOP CENTER AND SOME VERY MINOR HANDLING FROM ITS 162+ YEARS.

*Ulysses S. Grant (b.1822-d.1885)American military officer and politician who served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. As commanding general, Grant led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War in 1865 and briefly served as U.S. secretary of war. An effective civil rights executive, Grant signed a bill to create the Justice Department and worked with Radical Republicans to protect African Americans during Reconstruction.
