An Extremely Rare 18th Century Wrought Iron American LONG HANDLE \"SALAMANDER\" or Spatula, New England, Circa 1740-1760, IN OLD SURFACE AND PATINA AND A PIG TAIL HANDLE.
Great condition, untouched, uncleaned, wonderful surface patina. Rare form, great tool marks and wonderful shaped handle. THIS GREAT PIECE HAS A TYPICAL ROUND BLADE.
The surface is old with great wear and nice patina.
A very rare form.
These were used primarily to help brown the tops of meats and poultry and also to toast pastry. You would heat the flat blade in the fire and lay it on the meat or pastry as needed. These are often confused with a turner.
