Reverdy Johnson (1796-1876)held such political positions as U.S. Attorney General (1849-1850), Maryland Senator (1863-1868) and U.S. Minister to the United Kingdom (1868-1869). He was a famous defense attorney who defended the slave-owner, Sanford, in the controversial 1857 Supreme Court caseDred Scott v. Sanford, as well as General Fitz John Porter at his court-martial,Mary Surratt, a conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and Ku Klux Klan members. #11063
