Roy Mitchell is a well-known Hopi artist. Many of his kachinas sell for over $400.This kachina is a collector\'s item; beautifully made. Details include a turquoise bead necklace, turquoise boots and white leather wrapped leggings. The face is well-detailed. It is part of a collection of my husband’s. His father ran trading posts on the Navajo Nation from approximately 1940 to 1960. Most are in good condition, except where noted. Most have artist’s names on the bottom, with the exception of one or two.This Shalako is in very good condition; valuable.
The Shalako are the gods\' messengers who carry messages back and forth all year and bring moisture and rain when the people need it. They are tall and slender, without arms, and are very graceful. The downward feathers help the rain to reach the ground. This is a beautifully made kachina by a master artist. With bulging black eyes and detailed face, it is trimmed in leather, fur and feathers. A white fur cape is around the neck, with delicate feather headdress and dress, and turquoise colored bead necklace..Very good used condition A valuable piece. Signed by artist.
