ITEM DESCRIPTION
Item Description
Up for your consideration is a late 18th C. European (likely English) needlework/embroidery on silk with painted details, c. 1780. The piece islarge, and a very fine example in excellent condition. The glass in thepiece has been replaced with a UV protected plexi-glass to preserve thefine silk and stitch work.
It depicts a classical figure kneeling in front of the base of a tree with carved letters. It is signed \"A.V.C.\" lower left, approximate image size 13\" x 10\", frame 19 1/2\" x 16 3/4\".
The embroidery is in excellent condition, and appears to never been out of its frame. If you notice, the embroidery is somewhat 3-dimensional with thicker weavings in areas. The (likely) original frame is recessed (like a shadowbox) to accommodate this thickness. It is also indicative of a piece of the highest quality.The frame has wear/loss to the gesso/giltand some minor restorations, commensurate with age and use. Please examine the pictures of the frame carefully. The embroidery is in superb original condition, free of rips, tears, losses, or restorations. Modern, UV resistant glass has been added.
