UNIQUE US CAVALRY McCLELLAN SADDLE MODEL 1904 (SECOND PATTERN) ORIGINAL SADDLER\'S REPLACEMENT COMPLETE RIGGING.
AN AMAZING FIND AND THE ONLY ONE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED.
I BELIEVE THIS COMPLETE RIGGING SET WOULD BE ISSUED TO COMPANY SADDLERS FOR QUICK REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE 1904 SADDLE RIGGING. BASICALLY IT WOULD JUST NEED A SADDLE BAG STUD AND RIVETS TO MOUNT IT ON A SADDLE.
I AM GUESSING THAT THIS REPLACEMENT RIG WOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED CIRCA WORLD WAR I OR SOON AFTER. ONE OF THE LEATHER SAFE PAD IS MARKED \"LADEW\" A COMMON SADDLE MAKER AROUND WORLD WAR I.
THE LEATHER IS LIVELY AND SUPPLE. I DO NOT BELIEVE ANY OF THE LEATHER HAS EVER BEEN TREATED WITH A PRESERVATIVE. THE RUSSET COLOR LEATHER IS JUST NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND TODAY. JUST A FEW STORAGE MARKS. LATIGOS ARE FULL LENGTH, THE HARDWARE IS ALL ORIGINAL AND CORRECT. THE LEATHER ROUND SAFE PADS RETAIN MUCH OF THEIR ORIGINAL SHEEPSKIN.
PLEASE REVIEW THE PICTURES PROVIDED TO EVALUATE THIS RIGGING.
SUPERB DISPLAY AS IS OR A PROFICIENT SADDLE MAKER COULD EASILY RERIGGED YOUR McCLELLAN TREE.
NOTE THAT THE SADDLE STAND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SALE.
