Vintage 1960s Black Metal Sonneman Eyeball Lamp Kovacs MCM Lighting Mid Century:
$275.00

Item: Foryour consideration we are presenting for sale a nice vintage "eyeball" desk lamp by Robert Sonneman for George Kovacs. Circa '60s. Materials: Metal, Chrome, Wood. Color: Black. The lamp features a round metal shade that is attached to an extension arm which allows for the lamp to be adjusted into many different configurations. The shade can also pivot at its connection point with the extension arm. The lamp features an on/off rotary knob switch that is located at the top of the round metal orb. There is a blue label on the inside of the shade, but we cannot make out anything on it (see photos). It's a great lamp that'll look fantastic in any mid century modern themed setting.
Measurements: The item stands approx. 21.5" tall (measured from the bottom of the base to the top of the vertical chrome rod that extended out of the base). This height of the extension arm that connects to the round orb shade can be lowered along this axis. Including the shade, the extension arm measures approx. 19" long, with the shade being approx. 6" in diameter. The wooden base at the very bottom of the lamp measures approx. 3.75" wide x 3.75" deep x 5" tall.
Condition: While not perfect, we'd say the lamp is still in good condition for its age. Most of the wear is cosmetic, so it can be touched up to look better. In starting with the wooden base at the very bottom, there are traces of black color wear and light superficial scratches (see photos). In moving up the lamp, there is a black plastic lever that goes over the metal tightening nut that is used to move the arm and shade up and down the vertical bar. It appears that the plastic lever is stripped. It fits snugly on the tightening nut, but doesn't do much when it is being turned. For this reason, it has to be taken off to turn the nut by hand (again, see photos). In doing so, it still holds the arm's position nicely (no slippage, etc.). Lastly, the shade is in nice shape, but does show some superficial scratches as well. There does not appear to be any dents, dings, repairs, etc. The electrical wiring is in good shape, and the lamp is in the fully-functioning order. Being sold "as-is", and "as-described" - if you have questions, please ask them prior to purchase and we will be more than happy to respond back to you in a timely manner. Thanks for looking!
