c.1923 Einfalt, Clockwork Tin Litho \"Fighting Cocks\":
$482.00

New TemplateToy Name:Einfalt, Clockwork Tin Litho\"Fighting Cocks\"Recent estate find! Looks unused.
Year: c.1923 Description:From a recent upstate New York estatefind comes this awesome clockwork toy; catalog named \"Fighting Cocks\".Early tin toy made by Einfalt in Nuremberg, Germany. It has noidentifying marks. The toy grades near mint- and looks like it wasnever played with. The clockwork motor works great.Very colorful lithography with embossed wings, tail feathers, and clawfeet. As with several similar toys produced by this company it moves sidewaysabout 12\" and changes direction, repeatedly; left or right. As it movesthe metal ribbon connecting the two figures gives it a springing actionwhich causes them to rock up and down as if they were fighting. Simpleyet very effective toy!Size: 9½ long x 4½\" tall. Condition: Beautiful toy with all originalparts and paint (black light confirmed). Surfaces are clean andlustrous with the exception of the metal ribbon and the underside ofone base. This is to be expected with raw metal surfaces. Also, theunderside of the motor housing has the remnants of a small sticker. Nodings, dents, or scratches. The clockwork motor is strong, but it\'sfragile. Litho is strong, however one side of each bird is very faintlydarker (or lighter depending on how you look at it). You can see thismore effectively by comparing the neck feathers in the 1st and lastphotos. It\'s not consistent so it may have been manufactured this way.One wheel (speckled bird) has a tiny rim flake (see 1st photo, leftrooster). This same wheel sometimestilts a tiny fraction, which is just enough to, every now and then, prevent it from rocking more than several times. More importantly all 4wheels haven\'t a speck of rim wear so it was used infrequently, if atall! The roosters also each have a tiny wear spot on one side of theirtail feathers. The speckled guy (again) has two tiny additional wearspots on the opposite side of its tail feathers. The dark green bodyrooster has two or three pinpoint size nicks on one side of its breast. These are just barely visible. It conservatively grades near mint-. One of the best examples I\'ve seen of this toy!
