I have been a share holder in the mine for may years and have known the person who cuts these slabs since childhood. This has given unique access to the mine and have been in the gold room where these slabs are created many times. I have gotten to pick some of these slabs as they came out of the mine sacks and off of the saw on occasion.My friend Deni Hix is a famous artist in Missouri. We hit on the idea one day to have her do a miniature portrait on one. She used a visor and a brush with a single hair on it to do an extraordinary painting that was amazing. Since then she has done several more for me. One sat on the president of the OAU's desk for about a year and the rest (Including this pirate ship one) were displayed for quite a while in the Alleghany Gold Miner's Museum in town where some of the mine's best specimens are on display. If you ever get to the town of Alleghany you should certainly pay the museum a visit.
