Club meeting places varyfrom back rooms of motorcycle shops tosome really elaborate haciendas. And it is a\"home of their own\" that is the goal of mostcycle clubs.The Greater Vancouver MC was no excep-tion. They began their housing project lastsummer by cleaning out and preparing thelot on their free week-ends. Actual construc-tion did not start until the first week ofSeptember, 1952. At that time a foundationwas dug and forms for the concrete base wereassembled.It was on the following week end that theclub members mixed up a ten yard batch ofcement and poured it into the forms. It wasallowed to set for four days before the wood-en forms were removed and the carpentergang began their job. Clubmen Hank Rod-reque and Bill Brereton were the most ex-perienced along this line. They were assistedby some of the other members who wanteda try at the hammer and nail racket. Therewas a little anxiety and considerable im-patience when the floor beams and joist werelaid. This was eventually lined up and leveledby Hank and the thumb crew went to workon the simpler task of pounding a substan-tial floor into place.Slowly the forty-two by twenty foot build-ing began to take shape. The pace of theGreater Vancouver Motorcycle Club cannotreally be called slow because the roof was onin the comparatively short space of six weeksfrom the day the foundation was laid.
