1969 Dui Seid Acrylic Hard Edge Shaped Canvas Geometric Abstraction Op Art. The artist was an early adopter of this compelling format. The extended white square is a reference to the "Third Eye".
Eight Feet +Tall(96.75") x 33" wide x 18" deep. Created by the artist in 1969 and slightly restored by the artist 2013. The photos indicate a kind of moire effect that the camera captures due to the intricate layers of paint and the expanded nature of the stripes due to the architectural element to the piece that makes this item a little tricky to photograph. Zoom in to the closeups photos and you will get a better idea on the intricate nature of the paint stripes. The colors are bright and bold and the stretcher is sound and solid. A really magnificent piece from the time period & location created (Late 1960s New York).
There was a brief trend at the time this work was created in building out stretcher frames in an architectural manner and usually for Minimalist or Op Art type applications.
Dui Seid is a living artist who continues to reside in New York. He was active in the Art and Fashion scene at the time of this paintings creation and continued during the AIDS and Post AIDS era to create art and serve as an educator and activist.
