Although there are a few flaws with this tooth their are some rare exceptionally beautiful characteristics that more then make up for those flaws in my opinion. Lets start with the flaws since there is not many! So yes, there is some mild root erosion on the display side (back of tooth) in the center and to your left side upper corner of root ear. I took pictures of the root from many different angles so hopefully you can see everything well. Now lets talk about the other 98% of this tooth which is nothing less then spectacular. The last 2 photos are the measurements on a caliper but also show the red color when the tooth was first found about a year ago and was still wet but the rest of the photos are current, the tooth is now fully dry, the enamel color has changed most on the display side (back) from red to orange, with some pretty cool thin light gray tiger like stripping, the enamel quality is exquisite, there is only few hydration cracks that are so thin you can barely feel them, the gloss layer of this tooth is fully intact and shines like a mirror however took pictures at angles where the gloss was not shining to not block color and other details, next the bourlette is 99% complete and flows seamlessly to the enamel in some areas and almost seamless for the remainder but near the root center is the only tiny imperfection, the orange red black and white spotted pattern is stunning, rarer and one of my favorites of all the teeth I own, I will definitely miss seeing it, the non display side (front) is simply immaculate, the preservation is near perfect, the root on this side is fully intact and near flawless with no cracks and only one tiny erosion spot theenamel is slightly more colorful then the other side, there is some red on the upper crown area, 2-3 different shades of orange, the same gray stripes and then there is a faint but easy too see teal line running horizontally against the root edge. I do store all my teeth in a plastic tote (close to air tight) I maintain air humidity inside at 50% then the tooth is wrapped completely in bubble wrap, this method helps preserve color, prevent enamel cracking, peal and brittleness. If you store or display this tooth at 30% humidity or lower it may have a mild effect on color, Low humidity also can cause the enamel to become more brittle over time. So I recommend that you keep the humidity above 30% and below 60% if possible. When humidity is above 50% the color becomes more vibrant and a darker however also allows moisture absorption causing the enamel to flex and swell slightly then when humidity is lowered it will dry and shrink back this process with low/high humidity can create new damage over time then existing damage can worsen. I know this may sound crazy but research it and ask a professional to see for yourself. The orange and reddish orange color of this tooth is so pretty, I actually dont want to sell it but I bought one too many teeth this year, okay more like 10 too many lol, all you serious collectors know the dilemma! The next incredible and rare feature I want to point out are the cusps, specifically the one to your right when looking at display side, early Miocene megs can have very tiny barely developed but noticeable cusps leftover from its predecessors, the right cusp on this tooth though is too large for a meg and is closer to chub size however the left cusp is slightly too small for a chub and is meg sized! Along with these cool cusp comes a fully serrated cutting edge complete with a great tip, not a single serration is even slightly worn, all are full length, sharp and ready to cut your next sandwich or slice through a steak with ease lol. If all that wasn’t incredible enough I promise you will love this tooth when its in your hand! Last this tooth is again 100% natural without any alterations repairs, or restoration, the root consists of bone plus fossilized minerals/sediment, it is NOT carved or made of matrix and there is no leftover matrix anywhere on this tooth.
