The original egg was Emperor Nicholas II\'s 1911 Easter gift to his mother, Empress Maria Feodorovna. In 1927, the Soviet government sold the egg to a foreign private collector. Recently, the egg was bought out by Viktor Vekselberg\'s \"Link of Times\" Foundation and returned to Russia.
