ATQ c1890 Ladies of the Maccabees Memoriam Double-sided Medal Mears MI Hive 523 For Sale

This double-sided medal honors the Ladies of the Maccabees, a fraternal organization and benefit society dedicated to promoting friendship, charity, and patriotism. It was the first fraternal benefit society operated exclusively by women. The front of the medallion shows a beehive with the motto, “Ad astra per aspera,” meaning “To the stars with difficulties.”

Manufactured in the United States by Whitehead & Hoag, this medal bears the emblem of Hive 523 located in Mears, MI. It serves as a commemoration of those who have passed and were members of this organization.
