George Washington and His Generals Two Volumes in One 1875 First Edition Headley For Sale

This book is an 1875 version , Two Volumes in One, First Edition, published by Scribner, Armstrong & Co.  It measures approx 5.5 in x 7.74 in.  It is in very good condition with no tears or loose pages.  The binding is strong and secure.  The front and rear boards are flat and straight, but with bumped corners, which have been stabilized with archival glue.  There is an “ex libris” sticker on the inside cover with the name “Philip T. Moore”.  There is a faint inscription on the opposing page from his brother “Harvey Moore” and dated July 15, 1876, stating “A Birthday Present”; the inscription also mentions the name of a city, “Niles”.  The pages are mildly yellowed with sparse, random stains and minor foxing. Volume I is 348 pgs, and Vol II is 372 pgs.

Originally, this book was published as two separate books, one for each volume, in 1847.

Washington and His Generals is a two-volume biography by J.T. Headley. The first volume is a historical book that provides a detailed account of the American Revolution. The second volume contains brief biographies of military leaders who served in the American war for Independence with George Washington.  These include Sullivan, Lafayette, and John Paul Jones.

Joel Tyler Headley (December 30, 1813 – January 16, 1897) was an American clergyman, historian, author, newspaper editor, adventurer and politician who served as Secretary of State of New York. Headley belonged to the American Party.
