$155.94

Pleasecheck out my 100% Positive response and offer with complete confidence. (And please check out the other beautifulpots that I have on .)

You areofferding on a wood-fired chalice by NorthCarolina master potter Mark Hewitt.

DESCRIPTION: This impressive complex (and rarely seen)form has a multi-layered base that was wheel thrown round and altered into a subtle triangle. A short thin stem withconcentric incisions connects the base to a two-tiered bowl. The globular bottom of the bowl rises tomeet a straight walled, outwardly angled upper portion. Two scroll handles “join” those two sectionsand complete the pot.

Theflames of the wood kiln rendered the pot a warm toasty brown. This provided a backdrop for the gorgeousveins of golden ash that cascade down the walls of the piece. There are also two parallel series of mustardyellow circular markings adorning the base.

Thechalice stands 13 5/8” tall and measures 6 ¾”d at the opening- and displaysnicely LARGE. It is in mint condition-no chips, cracks or repairs- and has the potter’s personal stamp on theunderside. Please note: Parts of the base do not sit flat, perhaps by design. This is mentioned strictly in the interest of full disclosure.

This is a sale.

ABOUT MARK HEWITT: Mark Hewitt was born in 1955 inStoke-on-Trent, England. His father andgrandfather were directors of Spode.Between 1976 and 1982, he apprenticed with Michael Cardew at WenfordBridge Pottery and then with Todd Piker at Cornwall Bridge Pottery inConnecticut. Shortly thereafter heestablished his own pottery at Pittsboro, North Carolina. In addition to producing large planters, storage jars, and vases, he makes a full range of high quality tableware.
