Prof. David Keith Hardy,
director of Brandeis Univer sity's Film Theater Arts, was killed yesterday when
his car struck a deer on a road in Blandford. He was 45 years old and lived in
West Newton and Meredith, N. H. Professor Hardy was award ed the Overseas Press
Club Award in 1966 for his film documentary “India — Writings in the Sand.” His
other major film credits include “The Mounting Millions,” a popula tion study,
and “Mrs. Gandhi.” He has also worked on pro ductions for the American
Broadcasting Company, the Na tional Broadcasting Company, National Educational
Television, the Canadian Broadcasting Cor poration and the Australian
Broadcasting Commission. Professor Hardy was associ ated with Time Inc. as
director of special projects and as as sistant publisher of Life, pro ducing
the magazine's “The World We Live In.” He was a native of Ireland and a
graduate of Dublin's Trinity University. He served with the Royal Marine Com
mandos during World War II. Professor Hardy joined Brandeis in 1967. Surviving
are his widow and four children.
