Antique RANDOLPH PRESCRIPTION FILE BOXcontaining TEN prescription file boxes with999 original prescriptionsfrom 1927, serially numbered from245.001 to 246.000. The maroon file box is approximately 6" high, 8.5" wide and 7.5" deep.Inside the file box are 10 chartreuse (light green) boxes which are approximately 1" high, 4" wide and 7" deep, with labels designating the serial numbers of the prescriptions they contain, beginning with245001 and ending with 246000.I'm selling the box as it was when I bought it at sale nearly 20 years ago, except that I have removed the prescriptions to sort and count them within each file box, and so I could identify details that may be relevant to collectors. (Note: They are no longer in order by serial number, but they all remain in whatever box they were originally in. I did not remove any.)In terms of the "highly collectible" scrips, I've included a picture showing:
1 scrip for heroin
2 scrips for cocaine
2 scrips for ergot
5 scrips for opiumTo my knowledge, all ten boxes contain the serialized prescriptions reflected on their labels. Each prescription was stamped in sequence, and fastened to the "bent nail" that is attached to its box. By my count, there are 999 prescriptions. Each of the smaller green file boxes contains 100 prescriptions, except the last one (245901 to 246000), which contains 99 prescriptions on 98 pages. (One page has two prescriptions - 973 & 974.) I don't know what number is missing from the series.Note: I removed the prescriptions from the nail and sorted them for each box. They are no longer hooked on the nail. Each of the ten boxes still contains whatever prescriptions were previously inside them. Only a few of the prescriptions are dated, and they are fromSeptember and October1927.One doctor in particular - Dr. Becker - had GORGEOUS penmanship and wrote in ink, such that those prescriptions are both attractive AND readable. (One of the opium prescriptions was written by Becker.)In addition to the heroine, cocaine, opium & ergot, there are some prescriptions I know to be "collectible," like those for barbitol and those forpoisons (strychnine, belladonna, arsenic & formaldehyde). There are some prescriptions for ophthalmic, and some that were written by a dentist (DDS), including one for Paindyne dated Sept. 8, 1927The filling pharmacy and great majority of prescribing doctors were in Brenham, Texas.
