Rare 1880's Jesse James Death Photo Golden Eagle Clothing CDV Advertising Card For Sale

This extremely rare postmortem portrait of Jesse James, presumably taken on or about April 3, 1882, at the time of Jesse James murder by Robert Ford. James portrait has the words "Presented By The Golden Eagle Clothing House 514 & 516 Main St Kansas City, Mo" around it and measures a little over 4" tall and 2 1/2" wide.

When Jesse James was murdered by Robert Ford in St Joseph, local photographers came to take pictures of the famous outlaw after death, and in the case of this example, Golden Eagle Clothing took it a step further and incorporated his postmortem photograph into their advertisements.

The card has some toning and some light water stains, mostly to the edges and rear and bottom right corner. There is some minor fading but the image and wording is still crisp. A really nice looking example of a very hard to find image. It will be accompanied with a receipt from its original purchase from Rex Stark Americana many years ago. Don't miss this, these don't come up for sale very often!!!!
