The 51st Fighter Group was activated Jan. 15, 1941 under Commander Samuel B Knowles Jr. until Jan. 15, 1943. These pins very well could have been owned by Mr. Knowles Jr. It was either him, Colonel Louis R. Hughes Jr. or the third and last potential person would be Colonel William E. Blankenship from when he took over on Feb. 13, 1945. This lot also contained a Major Rank Insignia Pin made by Luke of Melbourne, Australia. The 51st stopped in Australia before it's final destination of India in March 1942. They were stationed in China in October 1943. The Jet Plane pin is either an F-80 or F-86 from the Korean War era. An amazing and historic group of pins from a famous Commander or Colonel from the 51st.
